Where Nature Becomes Your Retreat
An 8-acre campus centered on the celebration of Black culture — open and welcoming to everyone. We honor our Ancestors, educate our children, and restore our families' connection to the earth.
Our Mission
Honor. Educate. Restore.
H.E.R. Living Campus is an 8-acre campus in Indianapolis centered on the celebration of Black culture — and we welcome everyone.
Honor means we remember and pay respect to our Ancestors — the people whose lives, wisdom, and sacrifices made ours possible. On our campus, sacred shrines and gathering spaces keep that memory alive and present.
Educate means we teach our children by putting their hands in the soil, surrounding them with animals, gardens, and open sky. No screens, no walls — just real learning rooted in the natural world and cultural tradition.
Restore means we help families find their rhythm again — the simple, grounding connection between people and the earth beneath their feet. Many of us have lost that bond. This campus exists to bring it back.
You don't need any special background to be here. Whether you've grown your own food for years or have never stepped off pavement, whether these traditions are familiar or entirely new to you — this land is a place of learning, healing, and belonging for you.

"We don't just teach about nature — we live it, breathe it, and pass it on."
What We Offer
Programs & Experiences
Every program is designed to root participants in nature, culture, and community — available spring, summer, and fall.
Adult Classes & Community Events →
Outdoor Education Classes
Hands-on learning in nature for children engaged in homeschooling, unschooling, or distance education. Small classes of up to 15 students ensure every child gets personal attention.

Youth Carpentry Workshops
A Saturday morning series for ages 8–14. Children build real projects — birdhouses, toolboxes, planter boxes, and bookshelves — alongside a professional carpenter. Rooted in the Each One Teach One model.

Learn to Camp
A guided 2-night camping experience for families and groups. Your activity guide teaches you to make camp, build fires safely, and explore nature — then break camp and leave the land better than you found it.

Nature Retreats & Mindfulness
Spiritual centering through yoga, meditation, and sacred rituals. Available as half-day, full-day, overnight, or solo cabin experiences for individuals, small groups, and organizations.

Garden & Campus Learning
Get your hands in the soil. Students tend vegetable gardens, care for free-range chickens and ducks, and learn sustainable living practices rooted in cultural tradition.

Ancestral & Cultural Education
Visit our Ancestors' shrines and engage with culturally-centered curriculum that honors heritage, builds identity, and deepens children's sense of belonging.

Community Events
From the Ultimate Cupcake Festival to outdoor yoga gatherings and cultural celebrations, our events bring the community together while supporting outdoor youth programming.

Weddings & Private Events
Say Your Vows in Nature's Embrace
Our campus is available as an outdoor wedding venue and special events space. Imagine exchanging vows surrounded by ancient trees, vegetable gardens, and the gentle sounds of nature — a setting unlike any other in Indianapolis.
